Key Disability White House Appointments:

Kareem Dale … Special Assistant to the President for Disability Policy

          His role is to coordinate the administration’s efforts to see that

          with disabilities are ‘on a level playing field with all American. 

          Dale has a visual disability.

Steven Miller … Special Assistant to the President/Miller, a nationally recognized expert in disability and employment-discrimination law, will assist the Obama administration in the political appointment process, including in the U.S. Department of Education, U.S. Department of Justice and a host of regulatory agencies.  Miller will also manage the appointment process for political positions that impact the disability and disability programs through the government.  Miller was born with achondraplasia which results in dwarfism.

Kathy Martinez … Assistant Secretary for the Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP).  The ODEP is a sub-cabinet level policy agency in the U.S. Department of Labor that provides national leadership on disability employment policy by developing and influencing the use of evidence-based disability employment policies and practices, building collaborative partnerships, and delivering authoritative and credible data on employment of people with disabilities.  Martinez, an internationally recognized disability rights leader who has been blind since birth, specializes in employment, asset building, independent living, international development, and diversity and gender issues.

… smoking, drinking, or using drugs of any kind, more than you should?

… feeling numb or like nothing matters?

And are you or your loved one or friend also:

·       a senior, age 60+

·       a resident of Cuyahoga County

·       has major problems coping

·       is in crisis or homeless

If so, then Project Assist can help.  People who are  referred to Project Assist will meet caring professionals devoted to their well-being, including social workers in mental health and adult services, and a nurse.  They will receive a face-to-face assessment, crisis counseling and ongoing mental health services.
